Hiking, Birding, Walking -
Many people use the Ozark Highlands Trail
hiking trail (OHT) for short hikes,
day hikes, and for extended backpacking trips. Some walk a few hundred yards down the
trail birding, or for a walk in the woods. Friends go on a day hike together. They drop
off one car at their hike's end trailhead, then drive down to the starting trailhead.
Others park a car in the OHT trailheads for a few days as they backpack 20 or 30 miles.
All of the OHT trailheads except the Spring Creek trailhead on this tour are right off the
paved highway.
The Ozark Highlands Trail crosses Hwy 341
at Moccasin Springs Trailhead. You can hike in either direction. Follow the trail across
the highway from the parking lot and you are headed toward the Spring Creek Trailhead 9
miles away at Point
30A. Hiking the parking lot side of the trail takes you to the Brush Creek
Trailhead 9 miles away at Point 33.
If you want a shorter hike head toward the
Brush Creek Trailhead and about 4 miles from Moccasin the trail crosses Barkshed road at
Cripple Turkey Road. See Point 31 for
Cripple Turkey Road details.
