Twin Creek OHT Crossing Parking
Parking beside the highway in the parking
lot allows short walks or full day hikes in either trail direction. Hard to find, look
close!
Very near Twin Creek Road, aka FSR 1151.
Shown on some maps as the Twin Creeks crossing or parking lot for the Ozark
Highlands Trail. From
Brushy Creek Trail head at Point 33 it's
about 4.2 mile hike to here.
The trail on both sides of the highway is at the end of
these little driveway aprons
Finding The Parking Lot & Trail
- Hard to find, look close! It's a little past a
sign on your right reading "Texas Ranger Dobermans" with an old boat laying in
the field. Look for a yellow triangular Pedestrian Crossing
sign, and a yellow triangular 50mph caution sign, parking lot is right after this sign on
the same side of road. The parking lot is just after the guardrails you see
ahead in the curve. Look for three little asphalt drive aprons. Two access the trail on
each side of Hwy 341, and the last one on the right is the parking lot. The overhead
utility lines cross the road here. Follow the utility line up from the parking lot and
you'll see the two trail heads, one on each side of Hwy 341. Look
for the trail marker that says "Hiker Trail" OHT. The Twin Creeks
parking lot next to Hwy 341 allows short walks on the OHT either side of the
road. Take the trail on the parking lot side of Hwy 341 and you come out in 7.5 miles
at Point 40.
Take the trail from across hwy 341 and you end up at Point 33
in 4.5 miles. By the way, you won't see the creeks from the road.
Hiking South - Hiking the trail
across Hwy 341 from the parking lot takes you south toward Brush Creek trailhead about 4.5
miles away. Hiking this direction is a tough uphill section. We recommend NOT hiking this
direction! You can leave a vehicle here, drive up to Brush Creek Trailhead at Point 33, and
hike down to this point for a much easier hike.
Hiking North - Hiking the trail from the parking
lot side of Hwy 341 takes you north to Point 40 in about
7.2 miles where the trail once again crosses Hwy 341. The trail takes you along an easy
hike down Twin Creeks road for about 3 miles. After that the trail turns into a typical
hiking path.
Tour Note - Between this OHT trail head and the
Lone Rock Firehouse there are several pine stands. You will see several old logging roads
running into the pine stands. Most are pretty rough, but they make a good place for a
walk, and for birding. They are also great mountain bike trails.
