Sylamore
Walk-In Turkey Hunting Area
Sylamore Walk-In Turkey Hunting Area - All
around the Forest Roads Loop, as well as at other near-by roads, you'll see square white
signs with maps identifying the 9,700 acre Sylamore Walk-In Turkey Hunting Area. These
signs are posted at several old logging roads leading to the interior of the Experimental
Forest area as well as into the area outside the Experimental Forest on the southern and
eastern boundary roads.
Every year from April 1 to May 31 the old logging roads are
all closed to motorized vehicles. This protects turkeys during their critial nesting and
brood rearing season. Turkey hunting season dates change a little each year but typically
fall between mid April and mid May. In addition to turkey hunting, this area is also great
for birding, horse riding, mountain biking, and for walks.
The best map of the area is available from the Sylamore Ranger Station.
