Mountain View claims to be the Folk Music
Capital of the World. Judging from the amount of shows, artists, recordings, schools, and
instrument lessons, it would be hard to argue the claim.
Folk, 1950's rock, bluegrass, gospel, and old time
country are the genres. Dances are held from time to time at the American Legion and other
community facilities.
Pickin' Porches - A feature of
local RV parks and resorts is a "pickin' porch". This is usually a small
building with a porch where artists and guests alike perform. Some are inside and air
conditioned. These are normally informal jam sessions, but may also be scheduled
performances. Guests themselves use the pickin' porches for jam sessions. Strangers meet
and play together, sharing a mutual passion for bluegrass, folk, gospel, and old country.
Every year many people come to Mountain View just to play and enjoy the music.

Courthouse Square - During evening
hours in the summer, and most other days when the weather is cool, several artists - local
and guests - play in small groups on the courthouse lawns. Anyone is welcome to sit and
listen. Free.
Ozark Folk Center Auditorium -
870-269-3851 - Seats about 1,000. This is where the world famous gospel, bluegrass, and
folk artists perform. Music, dance, comedy. Local and guests performances. Shows Wednesday
through Saturday nights at 7:30pm. Open mid April through October. Ticket prices vary.
Wild Horse Theater Community Room at

Cash's White River Hoedown -

Brickshy's Backstreet Theater -
870-269-6200 - Live shows Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights. Comedy, clogging,
music. On Jefferson Street just south of the Square.
Jimmy Driftwood Barn - 870-269-8042
- Jimmy Driftwood was America's top folk singer, a legendary RCA Victor and Grand Ole Opry
star from Arkansas. This facility is his legacy. Folk, old time country, bluegrass,
