Upper Rand Park in Calico Rock, Arkansas
(Point 10 Is
Calico Historical District)
Stopping At Rand Park In Calico Rock - Rand
Park is beautiful and well worth at least a quick stop. A pretty Ozark creek runs through
the entire park. Picnic tables, a 1 mile walking trail, restrooms, and plenty of parking
for groups makes this a good rest point.
Two Ways In - There are two entrances -
upper and lower. The upper entrance is the first thing you see as you enter Calico Rock.
Upper Rand Park - As you approach the town
of Calico Rock you'll first see a sign saying "Calico Rock", then you'll see the
upper entrance to Rand Park. You'll see the blue and white sign on your left saying
"Welcome to Rand City Park". If you just want to make a quick stop, or
have a picnic, this is a pretty spot for it. There's a covered picnic table next to a
beautiful creek. If you want to go for a walk through the park there is a foot bridge not
far down the creek.
Main Rand Park: The
main entrance into the park is a half-mile further down Highway 5. This
is also the entrance to Peppersauce Ghost Town. On Hwy 5 keep going straight past the turn to Hwy 56. Hwy 5 is also Main Street
in Calico. Look for Knowles True Value Hardware on your left, which is about 150 yards
from the White River bridge and rail tracks. Between Knowles and the next building with
the large hand-painted mural on it is Walnut Street. Turn left onto Walnut and go a short
distance. To get into the park turn left again at the next street, which is Rand Hill
Road. This is also the entrance to Peppersauce Industrial Ghost Town (see Point 10).
