Ozark Folk Center - story teller

The Bessie Moore Memorial Deck is the site of the Storyteller's Act. The
story is about how a young man made a fiddle from a chair leg and a
cigar box with sheep gut strings. Based on a true pioneer story, it ends
with a murder at a local dance. Or does it? What part of the story is true,
what part is not? Some considered fiddling the work of the Devil. It's up
to you to image what actually happened!

In the movies Hollywood liked to portray hillbillies whittling on the front
porch of a log cabin. That sure happened, but as you can see, the
whittling was far more artistic than what Hollywood depicts. It's amazing
what can be carved into a simple chunk of hickory firewood.
