This contraption in the Wood Shop is a combination work bench and
large vice. It was used to carve and shape large wooden items, like the
shoulder yolk on the counter which is used for hauling two buckets of
water.

The Ozark pioneers shared a great sense of humor which is reflected in
their surprisingly complex wooden puzzles. This crafter makes a wide
range of wooden toys, puzzles, bird feeders, etc., many of which can be
purchased (see photo below)> As is the case with all of the craft
demonstrations you can talk with the crafters as they make their wares.
They love to tease in the style of the Ozark pioneers as they seriously
explain the history and the necessity in the pioneer life of what they
are doing.

It's hard to say who enjoys watching the potters more - kids or adults. So
we'll just say everyone enjoys it. It's fun to watch what looks like a lump of
mud transform into a work of art you can eat from. Crafters are not high
pressure. They don't twist your arm off trying to sell you their items.
What they sell is on display, or you can also place custom orders for
things like pottery.
