Ozark Folk Center herb garden

Located in the Craft Village, this authentic Ozark log cabin sits next to
a pioneer root cellar (shown below) in the Heritage Herb Garden. The
Ozark pioneers relied heavily on herbs for many things. Here you can
see the actual plants, learn how they were cured, how they were stored,
and what they were each used for.

In the center of the Heritage Herb garden is this old-time root cellar. In the
era prior to refrigeration a root cellar was a must-have. See how pioneers
preserved their foods, seeds, and root vegetables in these unique
storage rooms.

Sidewalks and stone planters are all through the Ozark Folk Center
complex. Between the Heritage Herb Garden and all the other plants,
gardening enthusiasts will see a unique planting theme.

Well for sure the pioneers did not have Koi ponds! They did have ponds
with cattails as cattails were a food source. These Koi are how the
Ozark Folk Center keeps mosquitoes out of their pond.
