Look along the river banks and just above. You'll see that most of the trees are bare. Yet up on the ridge tops peak is still a week away. Trees always turn first along the river bottoms. The color change works its way up the slope from the bottoms over about a three week period. Float the river for color, then drive or hike the ridge tops two or three weeks later for another dose of fall foliage.
