The cleared patch in the foreground is called a "food plot". These meadows are spots cleared by the U.S. Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Special browse grasses and plants are cultivated so that wildlife will have food in years when hard mast (nuts) growth is low. Food plots are found short distances off the main road down dirt roads. They make a great place for nature photography, camping, walking, and hunting. Whatever you do DO NOT venture off the roads! As you can see, if you get lost it will be extremely hard to find you in all these hills!
