Brook Trout Brookies are the newest trout on the Arkansas Ozarks fishing scene. In the mid 1980s several thousand escaped Norfork Trout Hatchery into the North Fork River and did well. No other stockings were made until the early 1990s Because of their intolerance to certain latent diseases at the Norfork and Spring River hatcheries, all our Brook trout are raised by the Greers Ferry Hatchery. In our area, Brook Trout have been stocked in the North Fork and Spring Rivers. From observations, it appears that they are well able to escape predation from Browns and Rainbows and our doing well. In January 1997, a new state record Brook Trout was caught in the North Fork River weighing 3 pounds 13 ounces. |
